Welcome to HCM. I'm sorry for your symptoms and I understand your concern.

Your doctor surely ruled out other causes of abdominal pain and diagnosed you with an infection as you say (i suppose urinary tract infection). Beside the medication, I recommend to you to drink a lot of fluids to promote a dilute urine flow and consuming cranberry products. If you have an intense burning and pain sensation during urination you can consider taking an bladder analgesic like phenazopyridine just for 1-2 days (not for a longer period in order not to mask the possible failure of treatment). Regarding the antibiotics, Augmentin is a good one and can be used also in urinary tract infections. But in absence of urine culture and antibiogram other class of antibiotics are recommended as empiric therapy for UTI, like Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim or Ciprofloxacin.

The thing that concerns me is the associated fever with your symptoms. This could mean also an upper urinary tract involvement (kidneys). So, if your symptoms do not alleviate or are getting worse I recommend further workup like urine analysis, urine culture and an ultrasound of the bladder and kidneys.

I hope my answer was informative to you. Wishing you a fast recovery and a good health, feel free to write for additional information. Best regards
